Including but not limited to: head coaches, assistant coaches, team helpers, tournaments and other special events, etc.

How to Sign Up as a Volunteer
Complete and submit the Volunteer Application and Background Check Authorization.

- Background Screening Information:
- All volunteers must pass a comprehensive background check as required by Louisiana law and SPAR policy.
- Screening includes Criminal history (state and national), Sex offender registries, Child abuse and neglect registries.
- Disqualification may occur for a variety of offenses, including but not limited to, violence, sexual offenses, crimes against children, weapons, or drug-related felonies.
- Disqualifications may be for a duration of 10-years or Lifetime, depending on the severity of the offense.
- Right of Discretionary review exists for misdemeanors or arrests without conviction.
- Disqualified individuals may appeal in writing within 10 business days with supporting documents.
How to Apply to Coach
- 1. Before applying to be a coach for SPAR, you must register for a background check. Please click here, then come back to this page to complete the rest of the online registration process. 2. Click here to visit the SPARC Program Catalog and click the tab for Volunteer Opportunites
- 3. Locate and select the Coach Registration for the appropriate sport.
- 4. Log into your SPARC account or create one.
- 5. Complete the registration form.
- 6. Please note: The background check registration must be complete. If eligible, SPAR staff will contact you about team assignment.
- Assignment Process:
- Coaches are selected based on criteria established by SPAR in the Sports and Facilities Manual. Priority is given to district residents, returning coaches, and on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Access Rules for Program Areas
- 1. Only registered and approved volunteers or coaches may: Enter player-only areas (dugouts, fields, etc.), Interact directly with youth during games, practices, or programs.
- 2. Parents, guardians, and spectators must stay in designated public viewing areas and are not permitted to enter restricted zones.
- 3. Violators may be asked to leave immediately. Repeated or serious violations may result in suspension or permanent restriction from SPAR facilities.
How to Register a Participant
(e.g. Baseball, Soccer, Swimming, Camps, etc)
1. Go to the SPAR Program Catalog 2. Browse and select the desired program (e.g., Baseball, Soccer, etc.).3. Click 'Add to Cart' or login with email (Log in or create a SPARC account.)4. Add or select the participant to register.5. Complete the participant details and sign all electronic waivers and acknowledgements.6. Pay any applicable fees.7. A confirmation email will be sent upon completion.
Recreation Volunteer Tax Deduction
- SPAR is rolling out a Recreation volunteer Tax Deduction Certification The Policy provides procedures for certifying eligible SPAR unpaid recreation coach volunteers seeking the Louisiana State income tax deduction of $500, as established under Louisiana Revised Statute [RS] 47:293 (7)(a)- The Recreation Volunteer and Volunteer Firefighter Deduction.
