Message Concerning Temporary Closure of Aquatic Area
Taking Care of What We All Use
Since opening in 2005, the RAQC’s natatorium and waterpark have served as a cornerstone for recreation, fitness, swim education, and family fun in our community. For nearly two decades, these spaces have been heavily used — and well loved — by thousands of members, day users, walkers, swimmers, and families.
What hasn’t happened during that time are major, comprehensive repairs to these aquatic areas.
As facilities age, especially ones exposed to constant water, chemicals, and daily use, proactive reinvestment becomes essential. For that reason, SPAR will soon begin a planned series of improvements in both the natatorium and waterpark. While the resulting shutdown will be longer than we’d prefer, it is critical to the continued safe, reliable operation of the facility.
In the natatorium, work will include resurfacing and retiling the competition and teaching pools, resurfacing the pool deck, replacing aging sprinkler heads, improving access by adding double doors in key areas, and replacing the movable bulkheads that allow us to safely configure the pools for different programs and users. These improvements focus on safety, durability, accessibility, and long-term functionality.
In the waterpark, work will address normal but significant wear in the Raging River and the catch pool for the Constrictor and Super Bowl slides. These areas endure constant water flow, heavy traffic, and environmental exposure, making periodic resurfacing a necessary part of responsible facility stewardship.
This work is proactive, not reactive. Completing it now helps prevent unexpected failures, emergency closures, and more disruptive repairs down the road — and ensures these spaces can continue serving our community for many years to come.
We understand the inconvenience that comes with a longer shutdown, and we truly appreciate your patience. This investment reflects our commitment to maintaining a safe, high-quality facility worthy of the people who use it every day.
We will continue to share updates as timelines are finalized and work gets underway. Thank you for being part of the RAQC community — and for trusting SPAR to take care of it.

How Facility Memberships are Affected
- Memberships During the Aquatic Shutdown
- We know many members have questions about how memberships will be handled during the upcoming natatorium and waterpark improvements. Our priority is to be fair, transparent, and consistent while this work is completed.
- Here’s what members can expect:
- • Drafted memberships will not be drafted in March or April. Drafting will resume once aquatic areas reopen. No action is required.
- • Full pay memberships affected during shutdown will receive a two-month extension added to their expiration date.
- During this time, no new memberships will be sold while aquatic areas are closed. This helps maintain fairness and clarity for all members.
- These adjustments reflect SPAR’s commitment to treating members equitably while investing in the long-term safety and reliability of the RAQC.
- If you have questions about your membership, our front desk team is happy to help. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
- SPAR Rec & Aquatic Center will remain open during this time and available for use. Current Members will be able to use their membership cards as normal in available areas. Day fees will also be available.
